Jim has been involved in the sport of cycling for over 40 years. Prior to getting into coaching, Jim competed as a member of the Spirits of St. Louis Cycling Team. As a competitor, Jim was a two-time Missouri Elite Road Champion and qualified for both the 1983 Pan American Games Cycling Team Trials and the 1984 Olympics Cycling Team Trials.
After retiring from racing, Jim obtained his USAC elite-level cycling coach license and coached the Spirits of St. Louis Junior cycling team – the top ranked Junior team in the US in 1990 and 1991. During his time as coach of the Spirits of St. Louis junior team, Jim placed 7 riders on the US Junior National team, 3 riders on the US Junior World Championship team and placed in the top three in the US Junior National Team Time Trial 3 times. Three of the riders Jim coached on the Spirits of St. Louis eventually turned pro. Currently, Jim coaches the Gateway Harley Davidson / Trek U25 cycling team, the top ranked elite team in the US in 2016.
Over the course of his coaching career, Jim has coached cyclists and triathletes to 5 US National Championships, 10 top 5 finishes at US National Championships, and 7 US National team appointments. In addition, Jim was the US National team coach at the 1990 Junior Pan Am Cycling Championships placing 2 riders in the top ten in the road race and the 1990 Le Tour de l'Abitibi (longest Junior stage race in world) where his team won the team competition.
Amy is a USAC Licensed Coach and has coached at Power Up since the center’s opening in 2013. Her 25 year career in endurance sports began with triathlon in 1992 and continues through today, primarily racing as an elite road and criterium cyclist. Cycling credits include multiple Missouri State Championship Titles in the disciplines of Road Racing, Criterium, Time Trial, and Cyclocross. Amy has twice been awarded the Missouri Best All Around Rider competition. Coupled with her love of cycling, Amy’s 19 years of experience as a personal trainer, group fitness leader, and speed & agility coach has given her valuable insight into working with athletes of all ages and abilities while drawing on the most current and relevant industry knowledge to see each through to their individual goals. Core strength, mobility, functional strength and movement are among her particular interests and specialties. Additional certifications include Pilates, Yoga, Kettlebell, TRX.
Coach at Power Up since Nov '15. Experienced endurance rider/racer in both mountain biking and gravel. Only woman to complete the 200 mile Dirty Kansa gravel race 5 years in a row.
